Do you observe JANGSEM Mondays?:Of course, I do. It's the great day everyone must know about and observe.
What do you think about Jangsem Monday movement?People always thinks including meat in meals shows status or people consider meat as the best dish. Therfore, they hardly takes a meal without meat. Introducing Jangsem Monday is the greatest initiative to let people know that consuming meat is not really good. Be it from religious point of view or from health point. Fact that there is day to observe Jangsem Monday reminds people, going meatless is beneficial
Why do you think it's important to go meatless?:Going meatless, if you decide, it's the best decision we tend to make. Even if it's only you, who don't take meat, it creates best difference. By going meatless, needless to say how we create difference in animal's life, it's also benefiting economically and for our health too. Therefore, going meatless is never a mistake. It's instead a great step towards big differences.
Are you a vegetarian or vegan? If yes for how long and why?:
I am vegetarian for almost 4 years. We were advised that taking Nya_phag_gong sum (fish, pork, and egg) is more sinful compared to other meat. So, it was in 2011, when I was in class 7, during school rindro, many of us pledged to go meatless. But I wasn't pure vegetarian. I stopped eating selective meat only. I could not become fully vegetarian as my parents were against it. They were concerned about my health. Having less knowledge, I could not back up my decision. It was only in 2015, after attending the talk by semchen tshe thar tshogpa, that I could fully stop meat and meat contained items. I could fully support my decision. I could convince my parents about my decision. Now I am thinking about going vegan.
Has it benefited you and how?:Going vegetarian, benefited me lot. Not only myself but to all the people I am dealing with. I no more have bother anyone with having to prepare dishes containing meat (so-called special dish). I no more have to spend huge amount on food items. Because no vegetable is as expensive as meat.
What are your Favorite veggies and fruits?:I don't have any favourite. I can go along with everything.
Your Favorite animals? Domestic or wild?:
No favourite animals as such but, I find cats cute.
What do you believe in or should we say your motto in life?:
When I decide to go meatless, everyone who cares me, including my parents are concerned about my health. I have convinced them enough that it's not true. However, I want to prove them my decision is right by staying healthy with vegetables. I believe that we are what we choose to be. Since, I chose to go meatless, I must prove my decision is the best.
What is your message to everyone on going meatless?:
I know everyone likes to have meat. Many of us have got chicken as favourite, or pork, Or shakam. Because it is our favourite, we tend to afford it anytime. And we forget it involves killing. Because we can't sacrifice our favourite, many animals are sacrificing life.
Kelzang Dema saved at least 12 chicken(s) till date.
